Skill #1 — Email, CRM & follow-ups for a niche heritage e-book business (2026)

Written 26 Oct 2026 from practitioner testimony; refresh when evidence changes.

What practitioners report works (sources)

How-to (Cedwyn)

  1. Every contact in HubSpot carries a source (outreach/heritage-2026, signup, buyer, prospect) and lifecycle stage; institutions are companies, people are contacts. Never import outreach targets into the reader list — only opt-ins join it.
  2. Welcome sequence (day 0 / 3 / 7): deliver the free first edition → one striking record + a specific Cedwyn page → soft mention of the £9.99 latest edition / bundle. One link per email, UTM-tagged.
  3. Weekly reader email, max once a week, same day/time: story first, one e-book featured, never a book the reader already owns (check the buyers ledger).
  4. Follow-ups: reply to every reply within a day; positive reply → thank, offer the free edition, ask them to share with their members/followers.
  5. Log every touch as a HubSpot note; opt-outs go on the do-not-contact list at once.
  6. Measure: signups/day, welcome open & click, reads (soft conversion), sales (strong conversion), replies.

Double opt-in leak: confirm mail and thank-you page for a lead magnet (added 27 Oct 2026, BIZDEV run 2)

Evidence (27 Oct): D1 cl_subscribers shows 2 of 2 /ebooks/ sample-chapter sign-ups on 26 Oct never confirmed (confirm mail accepted by Resend; 1 re-send). Practitioner/vendor figures: the confirm step typically loses 20-30% of sign-ups; a subject that names the thing asked for ("confirm to claim ...") lifts confirmation 10-15%; one reminder 24-48 h later recovers 10-15% of the unconfirmed (sequenzy.com double-opt-in templates, 2026 - a vendor blog, figures not independently checked). Marketers in r/marketing (EU, 2026) report the same leak on lead-magnet double opt-in. How-to: 1. Subject and button name the lead magnet ("Your free Cedwyn chapter: one click to open it" / "Confirm and open my chapter"), not "confirm your subscription". 2. First line restates what they asked for, not "someone, hopefully you". 3. The thank-you page delivers the thing at once (button straight to the chapter), then ONE next step (the free first edition) and ONE record page. No shop pitch on that page. 4. One reminder only, 24 h later, then stop (we already re-send once). Never add unconfirmed addresses to HubSpot or the list. Applied: patch the project workspace (cedwyn-mail Worker, topic-aware confirm mail en/cy/es + chapter thank-you). Measure: confirmed / sign-ups for sample-chapter topic, weekly.

Refresh 29 Oct 2026 (BIZDEV run 5): newsletter growth testimony with numbers (#1 26)

Apply to Cedwyn (list = 1 confirmed subscriber on 29 Oct)

  1. The signup must sit inline on the pages people actually land on (/research/*, /wales/, /documentary/), not only /ebooks/: patch #6 12 is the vehicle.
  2. Every printed or spoken asset (talks circuit, open-day leaflets, QR on cards) carries a QR to the signup page with utm_medium=print.
  3. Weekly email subject: under 40 characters, one specific record fact ("The 1974 open day that saved a farmhouse").
  4. Expect months, not days: judge the list by confirmed sign-ups per 100 /ebooks/ visitors, read weekly.
