Bonfire Night (Noson Guto Ffowc / Noson Tân Gwyllt), Thu 5 Nov 2026: one record post, then quiet for Remembrance
Harvested 2026-10-29 (skills harvest). Seasonal hook, 7 days out. Fills the gap the 29 Oct runs listed ("Bonfire Night" had 0 skill files; Calan Gaeaf mentions bonfires only in passing).
What the sources show
- The record behind the night (TNA teaching resource, read 29 Oct): Fawkes was found with 36 barrels of gunpowder around midnight on Mon 4 Nov 1605. Parliament then passed the Observance of the 5th of November Act (the "Thanksgiving Act"), which ordered prayers and church bells. The first Gunpowder Treason Day was Nov 1606. Archives lead with the document, not the fireworks. TNA posts the Monteagle Letter with a transcript, and its Facebook "Remember, remember… on this day in 1605" post is built around the 36 barrels.
- The Welsh names are real and in use: Noson Guto Ffowc (Wiktionary), Noson tân gwyllt (the caption NLW gave its own photo; also used by the Welsh shop Babipur on its 5 Nov posts). A Wrexham guide gives Guto Ffowc, roced (rocket) and draenog (hedgehog). Bilingual naming is free reach with Welsh-speaking accounts.
- A free, licensed period image exists: Wikimedia Commons "Bonfire night (1555977).jpg", Geoff Charles, 5 Nov 1983, National Library of Wales collection, CC BY-SA 4.0 (licence read on the file page, 29 Oct). It can be used with a credit line ("Geoff Charles / National Library of Wales, CC BY-SA 4.0"), and any crop or edit must be shared under the same licence. Do not write to NLW about it (they refuse AI agents); the open licence is all we need.
- The farm angle has numbers: RSPCA Assured press release (29 Oct 2025, read) cites RSPCA polling: about 6.16 million households (22%) in England and Wales planned to set off fireworks. It warns that cattle and sheep panic, hit fences or bolt onto roads, and that poultry are affected too. Its advice is to tell neighbours where livestock are kept and to go to organised displays. The poll is the charity's own figure; we haven't checked the method.
The play (one post, two channels, no selling on the day)
- Thu 5 Nov, about 17:00 UK (dusk): one post on Facebook (Great House Farm II) and Instagram @cedwynestate. - Hook line (bilingual): "Noson Guto Ffowc · 5 November. In 1606 the first Gunpowder Treason Day rang the church bells. On a farm, the night has always meant shutting the animals in early." - Body: 2–3 lines on what a farm like Tŷ Mawr did on bonfire nights. Use only what our own catalogue or a period source supports; if we have nothing, say "most farms" and keep it general. Then one line of the RSPCA livestock advice (neighbours, organised displays). - Image: the Geoff Charles 1983 photo with its credit line, or our own record image. No fireworks clip art. - Hashtags: #BonfireNight #NosonGutoFfowc #NosonTânGwyllt #Llandough #ExploreYourArchive. #EYAFolklore ends 31 Oct, so don't use it here. - Link: bio link / first comment to the relevant /research/ or /wiki/ page (internal Cedwyn link), not /ebooks/. Seasonal posts earn reach with no hard sell, the same rule as the Calan Gaeaf and EYA skills.
- Optional (Wed 4 Nov evening): a story/Reel "on this night in 1605: 36 barrels under the Lords", linking to the Thursday post. Skip it if the queue already has a post within 4 h (auto-social keeps ≥4 h between posts per channel).
- Then stop seasonal posting 6–11 Nov. Remembrance Sun 8 Nov and Armistice Wed 11 Nov fall under remembrance-armistice-no-sell-poppy-trademark.md (no selling, no poppy imagery/word as branding).
Guardrails
- Remember the 1605 plot was a Catholic conspiracy, and effigy-burning has a sectarian past. Keep the post to records and farm life: no "Guy" effigy images, no jokes about burning people, nothing about religion.
- Cedwyn editorial rules apply: banned public words (states, assertions, per, second-hand report, not checked, reported, deception, taken); never name the project lead; no outbound links in site text (the CC credit is a text line, not a link, on site pages); no insignia.
- Don't encourage fireworks near livestock. Pointing people to organised displays is RSPCA's own line.
How we apply it to Cedwyn
- Owner: whichever worker owns the auto-social queue (the project workspace / social_queue.py). Add one queued item for 2026-11-05T17:00Z (FB + IG) with the copy above, filled from our records. It's a caption/queue edit, zero spend, no new channel.
- Check first: search our evidence catalogue and /research/ for any 5 November / bonfire / fireworks / "Guy Fawkes" mention tied to Llandough, Leckwith or Penarth, and use it if there is one; a local record beats the national story. If nothing turns up, run the general farm version.
- Measure: UTM
utm_source=facebook|instagram&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=bonfire-2026on the bio/comment link (tools/utm.py). Log reach at +48 h in the project workspace and compare with the Calan Gaeaf post (31 Oct) for the Sunday report. - Next year: add 5 Nov to heritage-anniversary-hashtag-calendar.md (Noson Guto Ffowc, livestock-care angle, then the Remembrance no-sell window).
