Business Wales Events Finder: free listing for business-facing events (fit gate first)
Checked 2026-10-29 by reading the live pages (sources below). Web search was down during this run, so I found no practitioner testimony or numbers on what a listing brings in. Treat any result as unmeasured until our own UTM tag shows it.
What it is (read on the live site)
- businesswales.gov.wales redirects to wales.business-events.org.uk, the "Business Wales Events Finder". It is bilingual: the site has a "View this site in Cymraeg" switch.
- Free Rein Ltd runs it on behalf of Business Wales (company 05236270, per the T&Cs). The site is "made available free of charge".
- Scope, in its own words: "business related training, workshops, networking, seminars and more". Filters cover sector (incl. Creative and Media; Travel, Tourism and Leisure), topic (incl. Marketing, E-commerce, Creative Industries) and type (Webinars, Workshops, Seminars, Networking...), plus a postcode/distance search and an "Online event" flag.
- Organiser page: "If you are an event organiser and you are interested in promoting your business-related events on this site free you can apply here". There are about 29 pages of listed organisers, each showing a phone number and an email.
- The application form (organiserapplicationform) asks for: business name, contact name, email (published in the Organisers Directory), landline phone (required), website, approximate events per year, VAT status, correspondence address and registered office. After you submit, "we will then contact you" and ask for supporting information. So approval is manual and the timing is unknown.
- Example live listings (read 29 Oct 2026): "AI Made Practical: Simple Tools to Support Your Tourism Business" (3 Nov), the Business Wales 5-9 Club (free online, 8 weeks). Tourism-business training sits there comfortably. A consumer history talk does not.
The fit gate (decide before applying)
- Is the event for businesses or practitioners? Examples that fit: "Using archive records in heritage tourism products" for tour operators, B&Bs and guides; "Bilingual cy/en/es content for small heritage businesses". A public history talk or an e-book launch does NOT fit. Don't list one; it reads as spam and risks the organiser account.
- Can we give a business identity whose published email, landline and address don't expose private people or family holdings? If not, stop. Use a business mailbox (e.g. the cedwyn.estate Tab address), never a personal one.
- Will at least 2 events a year happen? The form asks for "events per year", and a one-off listing hardly justifies the application.
How to run it (if the gate passes)
- Draft the application fields in a HubSpot task (no submission). the project lead gives GO, because the form publishes contact details in a public directory.
- Event copy: plain title naming the audience ("for tourism and heritage businesses"), date and time, online/in person, cost: Free, 80-120 word description, learning outcomes as 3 bullets, a signup link to our own /events/ page with ?utm_source=bizwales&utm_medium=listing&utm_campaign=
. - Pick sector Travel, Tourism and Leisure (or Creative and Media), topic Marketing or Creative Industries, and type Webinar or Workshop. Give the listing in Welsh as well as English if the form allows.
- List 4-6 weeks ahead. Business audiences book later than consumer ones; the live examples were dated within the week.
- Measure: registrations carrying utm_source=bizwales. Kill rule: under 3 registrations across 2 listed events means stop listing there.
How we apply it to Cedwyn
- Natural candidate: the guided-tour-in-Wales objective. A free 45-minute online session for Vale of Glamorgan tourism businesses on "the records behind a former manorial house: building a heritage walk from archive sources". It is company voice, never names the project lead, nothing about family holdings or addresses, and has no sale pitch in the session. The /ebooks/ link appears only on the thank-you page.
- Not a channel for e-book promotion itself. It fits only if we genuinely run business-facing sessions (pilot walk partners, B&B hosts).
- Status: PROPOSAL. It needs the project lead's GO (it publishes contact details and commits to running events) and a business address/landline decision. Log it to the project workspace, not as action.
- Zero spend: the listing is free, and the T&Cs show no paid tier.
