Family-history society journals, members' interests and forums (Glamorgan first)

Harvested 26 Oct 2026 (skills harvest). Scope: getting Cedwyn's records in front of family historians through the societies' OWN channels (journal articles, members' interests, registered studies, forums), with their etiquette. Directory listings are in heritage-genealogy-directory-listings.md; talks are in heritage-talks-circuit-aatp-branches.md.

What the sources show (read 26 Oct 2026)

The method (practitioner pattern, adapted)

  1. Give a record, not a pitch. A society journal article works when it hands readers something they can use: a transcribed source, a names list, a map reading, with full references. The shop is at most one line in the author bio.
  2. One article per society per year, 1,200-2,000 words, 2-3 images we hold the rights to, captions with archive references. Respect the deadline; send early.
  3. Members' Interests: list the surname + place + period the archive covers (e.g. WILLIAMS, Llandough juxta Penarth, 1667-present). Members' route only (needs membership = spend = the project lead's call).
  4. Forums (RootsChat, society Facebook groups): answer other people's questions about the parish with sources; a link to a free record page on our site is acceptable only where the forum's rules allow links and it answers the question; never to /ebooks/. Disclose the connection in the profile. No DMs to strangers (the project lead's rule).
  5. Log every contact in HubSpot as a draft task (institutions only, never send without the project lead's sign-off).
  6. 30-day check: did the journal accept; any referral visits from glamfhs.org.uk (utm_source=glamfhs_journal on the one bio link).
