GIPHY brand channel: put archive GIFs and stickers into Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger search

Why (read 30 Oct 2026)

The rules (GIPHY help pages, read via archived copies, 2025)

  1. The channel type matters. "Creator" is for original, non-commercial content. Anyone selling goods or services must apply as a Brand. Cedwyn sells e-books, so it's a Brand.
  2. What a Brand application needs: - an email on the company domain that matches the username - a working link to our own web domain (social profiles don't count) - a public social profile - a 250×250 avatar - at least 5 uploads first - one application per account
  3. Only accepted (upgraded) channels get their tagged GIFs into GIPHY search and the API. Harry Dry: "Only with a brand channel are your GIFs publicly searchable", and his non-original GIFs were rejected. Verification (the blue badge, @username search) is a separate, later step via GIPHY's contact form.
  4. Original content only. Use our own restored scans, movie-door frames and hologram tiles. Never other archives' footage (rights) and never a likeness of real family members (existing editorial rule).
  5. Tag for searches people really type that have little competition: Welsh words and place names (Llandough, Leckwith, Patagonia, Gŵyl y Glaniad, Dydd Gŵyl Dewi), period phrases, and record types ("1916 tenancy", "tithe map"). Check each tag by hand on giphy.com and prefer ones with almost no results.
  6. Branding inside the frame: a small "cedwyn.bucklerfamily.estate" corner mark. GIPHY gives no link-back from inside the apps, so the watermark is the only route back. Keep text minimal.
