1824: the first record that names the house

The earliest record found that names Tŷ Mawr is David Stewart’s survey of 1824. The family dates its arrival at the house to 1667.
Tŷ Mawr is first named in the record found so far in David Stewart’s 1824 survey for the Bute estate (catalogue EV-0211): a description the estate wrote of itself, not a deed.
The Williams family dates its acquisition of Tŷ Mawr to 1667. The sources for that date are Mary Williams’ statement in the newspapers of 1974 and ITV News in 1988.
Documents dated before 1824 that come from the Bute estate or other third parties are not treated as records of Tŷ Mawr. Their application to the house is under examination, and they are tested rather than repeated.
