“Mr. David Thomas, of Great House Farm, Llandough” (90th birthday, 1910), the 1907 “STRAYED” advert and the Glamorgan Hunt kennels farm

Not our farm 1871–1910 · Llandough near Cowbridge

Why it is not ours: The census puts David Thomas at the Cowbridge Great House; our farm was the Williamses'.

The record

What it does and does not establish

Two farms called Great House stood in two parishes called Llandough. The deciding record is the 1871 census, which places David Thomas at Llandough juxta Cowbridge and John Williams at Llandough juxta Penarth. The 1910 birthday note, the 1907 advert and the hunt reports belong to the Cowbridge farm. They say nothing about Tŷ Mawr.

Next step

None for the identity question. A 1911 census copy (RG14, Llandough-juxta-Cowbridge) would add the last household, but it is not needed to decide.
