Quotation (verbatim): “in 1882 was appointed rector of Llandough, Leckwith, and Cogan, on the presentation of the Marquess of Bute, who is a patron of the living … During his illness he was ably assisted by the Rev. Frank Williams, M.A. curate of Cogan” (Barry Dock News, 22 Jun 1894, obituary of Rev. Lewis Usk Jones). “the new rector, the Rev. F. E. Williams, late curate in charge of the parishes of Cogan, Leckwith, and Llandough, was instituted and inducted into the Llandough incumbency by the Lord Bishop of Llandaff” (Glamorgan Gazette, 3 Aug 1894).

Fits with: Explains why “Williams” and “Bute” appear together in Llandough records of summer 1894 without any bearing on Great House Farm: the rector was a Bute presentation to the church living, and his induction fell in the same week as the swine-fever reports about “Mr Williams, Great House”.

Cuts against: No record seen links Rev. F. E. Williams to John Williams of Great House Farm, and none rules a link out.

Notes: Recorded so that 1894 church-living items are not read as Great House Farm events.
