The Tithe Act 1936 extinguished each tithe rentcharge and replaced it with a redemption annuity charged in respect of the land on which the rentcharge had been charged (s.3(1)). Each instalment was made a debt due to the Crown from the person who, on the due date, was the owner of that land (s.16(1)), and 'owner' meant the estate owner in respect of the fee simple, or a lessee for a long term at less than a rack rent (s.17(1)). The Tithe Redemption Commission could serve a person as owner for the annuities register, and a person served could deny ownership, leaving a court to decide (s.18). In the c.1841 apportionment the holding's plots carried a rentcharge of 11 pounds 13s 1d. The Commission's papers for this district should therefore show whom the Crown treated, and billed, as fee-simple owner of those plots from 1936, across the 1938 conveyance, from a source outside the estate's own deeds. Against: the Tithe Act 1951 (s.1) ended the duty to prepare a register for every district, so an owner register for Llandough may never have been made; the IR 94 orders exist only where a plot was later apportioned, and whether IR 94/51/58 or IR 90/51/58 touch the holding's plots is not checked; remaining annuities were ended in 1977 (not checked against the enacted text here). Parcel not identified (the holding's c.1841 plots lie within tithe 196-267 and 275-281; the order or register entry itself would name the plots).

Who should hold it: The National Archives, Kew: IR 94/51/58 and IR 90/51/58 (catalogued; originals not digitised, not viewed). Any annuities register or owner notice for the district: whereabouts not known.
