Schedule and plans to the Bute deed of exchange of 27 September 1893 (Glamorgan Archives DB/33/1-2)

Catalogued by its holder; schedule and plans not yet viewed.

Why: Cross-reference (holder's own catalogue entry DB/33/1-2, GB 0214 DB, 'Detailed schedule and plans included'); practice (an exchange deed carries a schedule of the parcels exchanged).

The Bute estate catalogue lists a deed of exchange of 27 September 1893 between the trustees of the late Marquess's will and the Marquess himself, for lands in Leckwith, 'Llandough-juxta-Barry', Cogan and neighbouring parishes, and records that a detailed schedule and plans are included. An exchange between will trustees and the life owner moves land between settled and free estate, which decides whose will could later carry it. If the holding is on the schedule, this is the first plan of the Bute title to it since the 1840s tithe survey and it fixes which side of the family the freehold sat on before the 1900 division. Against: the catalogue gives no direction of exchange and no parcel list; 'Llandough-juxta-Barry' is not checked as the Llandough beside Penarth (the Cogan, Lavernock and St Andrew's Major company points that way, but another catalogue entry uses the same form with a Cardiff parish); and the deed may concern only quarry or railway land.

Who should hold it: Glamorgan Archives (Bute Glamorgan Estates collection, DB/33/1-2). Reading-room item; not yet viewed.
