Quotation: Long title: “An Act to make provision for the validation of the registers of common land …”. Section 2(1)(b) defines “the Glamorgan register” as the register of common land kept for the former Glamorgan County Council area.

Finding: The Act covers the register of common land only. It does not mention the register of town or village greens, so it did not validate or redraw village green VG41. Validation under the Act was unit by unit (s.7), after newspaper notices and a period for representations (ss.4–6).

Negative search: no London Gazette notice by South Glamorgan County Council under the Act was found for 1983–87. Sections 4–5 required local newspaper notices, not Gazette notices, so any notices will be in the local press (from Sep–Oct 1983).

Proves: The 1983 Act did not apply to the village green register.

Does not prove: Anything about VG41’s own registration; its finality still rests on the Commons Registration Act 1965 procedure.

Interpretation: working hypotheses

Working hypotheses, kept apart from the record above. The record text on this page is unchanged. None of these is a finding: each line is labelled as inference, theory, a reading that cuts against the case, or a discarded theory, and names the evidence it rests on and what would confirm or refute it, so the reader can test it. Updated 25 Oct 2026 (v2: ingredients wording).

Three versions of Parcel A

CUTS AGAINST THE CASE · P-02Cuts against A3: on the certified VG41 map the green is a small roadside wedge in front of the church, and objection No 314 was in the land section (whether the land is a green), not the ownership section. The "1970 synthetic Parcel A" reading is weak on the map read so far.

Rests on: EV-0044 · EV-0263 · research log E88

Would be confirmed by: A VG41 plan or Commons Commissioner file showing the green extended over the house parcel.

Would be refuted by: The certified map as read (a roadside wedge only).

Status: Weakened

Demolition, archaeology and the green

THEORY · H-03Ground R8: VG41 was registered in 1970 by Glamorgan County Council as registration authority; the same council's planning committee had heard her, reported as Mrs M. D. Buckler, on 19 Nov 1958 describe her family's land as "wrongfully appropriated". Working hypothesis: a separate route on the green, not a ground to reopen the 1987 judgment.

Rests on: EV-0044 · EV-0263 · EV-0232 (this page) · EV-0035 · EV-0036 · ground R8

Would be confirmed by: The Commons Commissioner or county council file on VG41.

Would be refuted by: A file showing the 1958 hearing and the green were handled by unconnected officers with no notice of the dispute.

Status: Open (ground R8, scores a1 b0 c2 d1)
