Llandough entries

Unconfirmed: Whether any of these parcels was part of the Great House Farm holding. “Pen Y Lan Road” is probably today’s Penlan Road (inference). Which applications the Registry chose to advertise is also unconfirmed.

Cuts against: The Registry’s Gazette notices of this kind stop around May 1975 (latest found 1 May 1975). So the absence of a Gazette notice for the 1982–83 first registrations is not, on its own, evidence of concealment. The 1964 and 1969 notices also show that some former Western Ground Rents land in Llandough went through a public objection window.

Location note (unconfirmed): by OpenStreetMap, Penlan Road is about 150 m south of Church View Close / St Dochdwy’s Church, and Vale View Close about 0.8 km south. The Dec 1987 council minutes mention “the council’s Penlan Road licence” beside VG41 (EV-0214). Whether the 1964 “Pen Y Lan Road” parcel touches the green or farm land needs the parcel plan.

Proves: HM Land Registry publicly advertised four pending first registrations of land at Llandough and Cogan in 1960, 1964, 1969 and 1972, by George Wimpey & Co. and by Lakeside and Llandough Development Co.

Does not prove: That any of the land was the farm’s, or any wrongdoing by any party.

Interpretation: working hypotheses

Working hypotheses, kept apart from the record above. The record text on this page is unchanged. None of these is a finding: each line is labelled as inference, theory, a reading that cuts against the case, or a discarded theory, and names the evidence it rests on and what would confirm or refute it, so the reader can test it. Updated 25 Oct 2026 (v2: ingredients wording).

Title chain and registration

INFERENCE · R-03The 2 Feb 1987 amalgamation of WA240304 into WA231076 sets a dilemma on the 1983 class of title: either absolute in Feb 1983 (a London Gazette advertisement was required by the rules as printed, and none has been found), or possessory and later converted. Working hypothesis: the class of title in 1983 is a test of how the application was handled. Not yet confirmed for 1987 practice.

Rests on: EV-0078 · EV-0066 · EV-0231 (this page) · research log E114, E116, E118, E120, E125

Would be confirmed by: Subject access request item 10 (the 1983 register edition) showing the class of title.

Would be refuted by: Evidence that the Registry had stopped Gazette advertisement for all land after about May 1975 (the absence found is practice-wide, E116).

Status: Open; turns on item 10 (due 28 Oct 2026)
