Related evidenceEV-0218 (Cwm Cydfin SSSI); EV-0211 (1824 plan 19)

Quotation: DSA/3/192: “Client: The Marquess of Bute. Coppice Woods at Maes Bach Wood (Llantwit Fardre), Cwm Cydfin Wood (Leckwith and Llandough) and part of Coed-y-Ddylluan (Leckwith). [for full details see DSA/12/1003 which is the file for this sale]”. DSA/12/1003: “Sale of the Woods. Particular 192. (The Marquess of Bute). Parts of Maesbach Wood, Llantwit Fardre; Cwm Cydfin Wood, Leckwith and Llandough; and of Coed-y-Ddylluan (otherwise White Farm Wood), Leckwith. … Particulars and conditions of sale for auction 29 Nov 1902 (with additional notes in red ink).”

Proves: In 1902 the Marquess of Bute put coppice woods including “Cwm Cydfin Wood, Leckwith and Llandough” up for auction (29 Nov 1902). A wood of that name was Bute’s in 1902 and lay across Leckwith and Llandough.

Does not prove: Whether the land or only the coppice / underwood was sold; the buyer or result; the wood’s boundaries; identity with the SSSI or with plan 19’s wood (HYPOTHESIS). The same file also holds an unrelated 1899 timber sale for the Melyn Griffith Co.
