Quotation (verbatim): s.54(3): the Secretary of State “shall consult with such persons or bodies … having special knowledge of, or interest in” historic buildings. s.54(4): a certified copy “shall be deposited with the clerk of the council” of the district. s.54(6): each deposited copy “shall be registered in the register of local land charges”.

Fits with: The Vale of Glamorgan Borough Council should have received the certified Llandough list in 1989 and registered it, and named consultees should have seen the draft in 1988. That gives a paper trail outside Cadw: the deposited copy, the land-charge entry and the consultation list.

Cuts against: The duty applies to buildings that were listed. Great House was not listed, so it may not appear in the deposited list at all. Whether the 1971 wording was amended before 1988–89 is UNCONFIRMED.

Notes: A question to the Vale on the 1989 deposit and land-charge entry is queued (not sent) until current replies are in. DCVG/C/7/10 is free to inspect at Glamorgan Archives.
