Tears flow as 800 year-old farm house is razed at last
THE FINAL chapter in the 35-year battle over the ownership of Great House Farm in Llandough ended early yesterday when a team moved in to demolish the 800-year-old farm house.
HUNDREDS of people yesterday flocked to see an 800-year-old house, containing centuries-old furniture and china, which is in danger of being demolished by developers.
Planning permission to develop the land and build about 13 houses was given to B P Petroleum Pension Trust by the former Glamorgan County Council. But I will refuse to move because not only is this my home it is part of the nation’s heritage.
The ownership of the house has been in dispute for 25 years but my family has lived here for more than 400 years and my solicitors tell me I have a valid claim to it.
The second objection period under the Commons Registration Act 1965 ends. It covers VG41, the land by Leckwith Road provisionally registered as a village green on 16 June 1970. Notice is given to the public only; the Act requires no personal notice to the occupiers of the farm.
